Bitch Media, a non-profit feminist organization and media company that publishes the popular Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture magazine, has opened a brief reading period to curate pitches and freelance submissions for the Spring 2018 issue (#78).
The theme for this issue is “Revenge.” Writers are invited to submit work that examines and explores the brilliance and resilience in pop culture for feminist communities of color.
The editors will review:
Features: critiques, essays, interviews, and articles related to the theme. Word length: 2000-2500 words. Payment:
$200/piece increased to $500/piece.
Dispatches: reviews, critical essays, Q&As, and activist profiles. Word length: 900-1000 words. Payment: $200/piece.
Turning 20: this section explores the cultural imprint of one piece of pop culture that’s commemorating that golden anniversary–a celebrity’s notable moment at the VMAs, a TV show that altered the landscape forever, or a classic book that’s still relevant today. Word length: 800-1000 words. Payment: to be discussed.
Department of Everything: this new section publishes enjoyable, short pieces that offer a sharp dose of feminist review in a convenient format. Payment
varies, from $50 to $75 is $50.
