The Writing Ranch (Bend, OR) is calling for writers to enter this year’s Waterston Desert Writing Prize (est. 2014). The Prize recognizes literary nonfiction that embodies creative excellence, sensibility to place, and desert literacy–with the desert as both the motif and scenery.
The writer of the best literary nonfiction story will win a $2,000 cash prize, a four-week residency at PLAYA at Summer Lake, Oregon, and an invite to read at a social celebration at the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon.
The judges invite emerging, mid-career, and professional nonfiction writers to submit a published, unpublished, or a work-in-progress nonfiction work. The judges will review submissions based on using a distinct voice, a captivating style, literary sensibility, and originality that blend together to add playful contexts and a meaningful contribution to the discourse of desert literature.
To enter, submit a writing sample of 10 pages or less, a nonfiction literary proposal, and an online application before the deadline.
Deadline: April 1, 2017. [ Enter writing contest ]
