Tu Books Calls for Entries to the New Visions Award – $1,000 Prize – No Entry Fee

Tu Books (an imprint of Lee & Low Books) is inviting children’s book writers to enter this year’s New Visions Award. Presented annually since 2012, the award recognizes an unpublished author of color who has written an amazing novel-length story for middle grade or young adult readers.

One finalist will receive a cash prize of $1,000.00, plus a standard book publishing contract (with an advance payment and royalties). A runner-up will receive a cash prize of $500.

The judges are looking for novels or graphic novels in any fictional genre aimed at children ages 8 to 12 or young adults ages 12 to 18. Stories should address the needs of children and teens of color. Themes connecting to LGBTQ+ topics or disabilities are encouraged. Genres may include fantasy, science fiction, mystery, suspense, etc.

Manuscript length: up to 75K words for middle grade novels; up to 95K words for young adult novels; up to 150 scripted pages for graphic novels.

Submit a complete, original, unagented manuscript, plus a synopsis.

There is no fee to enter the New Visions Award.
