The Fantasist eZine Calls for Novella-Size Fantasy Stories – Pays $100/story

The Fantasist, an online quarterly magazine of novella-length fantasy stories, is inviting writers to submit stories for issue #5, and possible issue #6.

The purpose of The Fantasist is to extend the classification of fantasy, strengthen and interweave the discussion around speculative fiction, and amplify the role of fantasy within that discussion.

Although the editor is seeking more urban fantasy and space opera stories for the next two issues, fantasy is still the underlying genre. The editor welcomes both hard and soft science, including cutting-edge scientific ideas, to propel a story. The editor especially enjoys stories set in a well-researched historical setting, occurring in the present or the future, and stories with interplay between magic and science.

Word length: 15K-50K 15K-40K words per story.

Token payment: $50/story. Now paying $100/story.

Deadline: August 25, 2017. Read submission guidelines at The Fantasist’s website.

Writers can read the debut issue of The Fantasist online. The second issue will be released in March. The publisher releases three original fantasy novellas the third Thursday of every third month.
