The Dark Magazine (est. 2013) has updated its submission guidelines and is inviting emerging and seasoned writers to submit their best dark fantasy and horror tales for possible publication in a future issue.
The editors encourage experimental works of fiction in these genres. The Dark is a market to showcase high-quality literary, imaginative, and cinematic works that blend darker and frightful themes of fantasy and/or horror, not gratuitous violence, despite the publication’s name.
Word length: 2K-6K words per story (previous word length was 1K-6K words).
Payment: 3 cents/word for original fiction up to 6K words. (New) The editors now pay reprints at 1 cent/word for previously-published fiction up to 6K words.
The Dark Magazine is published monthly in digital format (online and epub) by Prime Books and co-edited by Sean Wallace and Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Wallace formerly edited or co-edited Clarkesworld Magazine, The Dark, and Fantasy Magazine, as well as numerous anthologies. Moreno-Garcia’s debut novel, Signal to Noise, was nominated for the British Fantasy, Locus, Sunburst and Aurora awards. She is also the guest-editor for Nightmare Magazine’s POC Destroy Horror.
