Cricket Media is inviting freelance writers to submit prose and poetry for a future issue of SPIDER, a literary magazine for children (ages 6-9).
For the next issue the editors are accepting submissions on the theme of “Captivating Cityscapes”—kid-friendly stories that showcase cities as extraordinary places where millions of people live. Readers will explore the underground to ride the subways, into back alleyways and apartments, and up in the world’s tallest skyscrapers. Whether traveling by railroad or pavement, the editors welcome stories that explore the world’s biggest cities as well as imaginative fictional cities.
Submissions by and about people of color, LGBTQAI+ people, and other marginalized individuals are strongly encouraged.
Word length: 300-1K words per fiction story; 300-800 words per nonfiction article; up to 20 lines per poem.
Payment: up to 25 cents per word for fiction or nonfiction; up to $3/line for poetry ($25 min. payment); $75 per activity or recipe.
Deadline: December 15, 2017. Read submission guidelines for Spider magazine.
