Fiction writers are invited to submit their best stories to Speculative City, a new bi-annual literary journal that will showcase speculative fiction tales influenced by urban environments and the characters who inhabit them. The first issue will debut in February 2018.
Each issue of Speculative City will embody the incentives of speculative fiction and fuse them into a focus of setting: the city. Cities instinctively attract marginalized and underrepresented individuals yearning to build communities. Speculative City aims to dignify the representations of these communities through stories that uncover and investigate the potentials of their lived experience through the vessel of science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism.
Writers are invited to submit fiction, poetry, and essays for the issue’s upcoming theme. (See submission guidelines for current theme.)
Word length: under 7500 words per story.
Payment: up to $75 per story based on length.
Submit only original, unpublished stories to the editor.
Reading period ends: December 15, 2017.
