The African Poetry Book Fund is encouraging poets to enter this year’s Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets. Each year the organization recognizes a talented African poet who has not yet published a collection of poetry. The finalist receives a cash prize of $1,000.00 and his or her book manuscript is published by the University of Nebraska Press.
The Sillerman First Book Prize is open to all “African” poets–a person born in Africa, who is a national or citizen of an African country, or whose parents are African.
The judges will accept only “first book” submissions, meaning the author has never had a book of poetry published. This also includes self-published books.
Manuscripts, no less than 50 pages long, must be in English or translated from a foreign language into English.
The Sillerman First Book Prize is free to enter.
Deadline: December 1, 2017. [ Enter Poetry Prize ]
