Opossum (est. 2016), a bi-annual literary journal that showcases work animated by music, is open for submissions of prose and poetry. Opossum publishes two online issues yearly, each accompanied with a 7-inch vinyl record featuring audio readings of authors’ literary works.
The editors welcome flash fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and essays influenced by music.
Because submissions must identify with music in indirect, obscure, and unpredictable ways, writers should submit a short artist’s declaration clarifying their work’s connection to specific musical styles and manifestations.
Word length: up to 1K words for flash fiction; under 9K words for fiction or nonfiction; any line count for poetry.
$100 $75 per poem, nonfiction, or flash fiction; $250 $200 per short story or essay.
Reading period: ongoing. Submit your prose or poetry at Opossum’s website.
