Flame Tree Publishing (est. 1992), a publisher known for creating beautifully bound illustrated books, will be releasing two additional anthologies of fiction stories. The editor is curating between 20 and 30 classic tales written by emerging and seasoned contemporary writers until September 29, 2017.
The two anthologies include:
Alien Invasion: Visitors from other planets have long obsessed us. H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds created a vast wave of speculative fiction but the origins of such fears run deep in our literature, where the mysteries of other cultures have long threatened the familiar and the comfortable. Did aliens build the ancient pyramids? Do they live amongst us today? What happens when they invade?
Endless Apocalypse: Stories of the end of civilized life have always captivated us, from the mythological world endings to the flood stories from across the Ancient world. They make us wonder what we would do if all around us came to an end–no transport, no fuel, no communications, a retreat into the desperation, the onset of disease–how would we survive?
Word length: 2K-4K words per story. Original stories and reprints are welcome.
Payment: 6 cents/word (considered pro-rates for this genre).
Writers may submit more than one story to each anthology.
Deadline: September 29, 2017. Read submission guidelines at the publisher’s website.
