Fantasy Fiction Stories Needed for Special Issue of ‘Black Girl Magic Lit Mag’ – Pays $50/story

Black Girl Magic Lit Mag (est. 2016) is an emerging online literary magazine with the purpose of supporting and promoting diverse voices and characters in speculative fiction, particularly Black women’s voices.

Special ALL fantasy fiction-themed April 2017 issueThe editors have opened a short reading period to curate stories for a special ALL fantasy fiction-themed April 2017 issue referred to as “Flights of Fancy.” Open to all types of speculative fantasy–urban, high, or anything in between–stories must be about and by Black Women, or provided that the protagonist is a Black Female. Stories may contain elements of magical realism, fantasy, surrealism, and horror.

The editors encourage submissions from writers who define themselves as people of color, women, members of the QUILTBAG community, and others who are marginalized or underrepresented in the speculative fiction genre.

Word length: 1K-6K per story or 250-500 words for flash fiction.

Payment: a flat rate of $50 per fiction story; $25 per non-fiction articles.
