Brain, Child: the Magazine for Thinking Mothers (est. 1999) is now accepting personal essays for an upcoming issue of Brain, Teen, a special annual publication that offers readers unique viewpoints on the challenges of parenting teens.
Writers are encouraged to submit provocative personal essays that encapsulate the special experiences and taxing moments of rearing teens and tweens (ages 13 and older).
The editors want essays that sound and feel genuine and realistic and treat readers to beautiful detail, dynamic scenes and age-appropriate dialogue.They also would like to receive unique topics or intriguing twists on common topics.
Word length: 1500-4K words per essay.
Payment: $300 per essay. The editors also enter each essay into the “Best of Brain Teen” writing contest for a chance to win a $1,000 prize.
