After a two week delay, online literary journal Blackbird (est. 2002) has opened its annual reading period to receive high-quality prose and poetry for forthcoming issues. The reading period opened November 15th instead of November 1st and will close April 15, 2017.
Blackbird is published twice annually by New Virginia Review and the Creative Writing Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The editorial staff welcomes poetry, short fiction stories, and personal narratives. Writers can read past issues online to familiarize themselves with what the editors choose to publish.
Length: under 8K words for prose; up to six poems per submission not to exceed 10 pages total.
Payment: Blackbird pays its contributors after publication. Rates are discussed between the editor and writer and vary according to type of work.
Submit original, unpublished works only. Read submission guidelines at Blackbird’s website.
