Barnes & Noble’s ‘Discover Great New Writers Award’ Calls for Entries – $105,000 in Cash Prizes – No Entry Fee

Barnes & Noble sponsors an annual writing competition called the Discover Great New Writers Award (est. 1990), which distributes cash prizes totaling $105,000 to six aspiring writers. Additionally, B&N heavily advertises, promotes and distributes the winning books in their stores and online, ensuring the success of the author.

First Place, Fiction: Abby Geni, The Lightkeepers

Each year the committee receives submissions from publishers of all sizes and selects 50 books for the program. An independent panel then picks the winners and finalists.

The Award is open to authors with less than three published books who have not received national attention or a significant literary award.

The judges will accept and review adult and young adult fiction and nonfiction stories, including short story collections, creative non-fiction, memoirs, travel stories, and nonfiction stories with exceptional narrative. No children’s stories. All entries must be original books, written by one author.

Authors with strong literary merit must have their publishers submit their books on their behalf, since this competition disallows individual authors from submitting publisher-worthy titles or self-published titles.
