Leading sci-fi site Tor.com (est. 2008) has finally re-opened to receive unsolicited manuscript submissions from both emerging and experienced authors of fantasy stories for its Tor.com: The Imprint novella program.

During this three month reading period, Sr. Editor Lee Harris and Asst. Editor Carl Engle-Laird are reviewing original, unpublished novellas. They want to review novel-length fantasy stories with mainstream interest that also capitalize on the specific strengths of the novella format.

During this reading period, the editors are interested in only these sub-genres:

  • Epic fantasy
  • Sword and sorcery
  • High fantasy, or
  • Quest fantasy, whether set on Earth or on an original fantasy world.

Manuscript length: between 20K-40K words per novella.

Underrepresented/marginalized writers from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to submit their manuscripts.

Payment: Tor.com The Imprint pays an advance against royalties.

Reading period closes January 12, 2017. Read submission guidelines at Tor.com’s website.

Tor.com is a division of Macmillan Publishers, which already publishes sci-fi and fantasy books under Tor Books. Tor.com: The Imprint, launched in 2014, expands the website’s reach into new publishing territories.
