Blue Cubicle Press, LLC is reading submissions for another issue of The First Line (est. 1999), a quarterly print literary journal that helps writers jumpstart their creativity. The new “first line” prompt for the next issue is: “Eddie tended to drift into whatever jobs were available that would pay the rent.” Writers must use the first line “as is” and write a fiction story based on it.
Recommended word length for fiction is 300 to 5K words.
The editor also welcomes non-fiction expositions about a favorite first line from a significant literary story or book. Word length: and 500-800 words.
Payment, on publication, is $25-$50/fiction story, $5-$10/poem, and $25/non-fiction story. All genres are eligible. David LaBounty is Editor.
