On Spec magazine Calls for Poetry and Fiction Stories from Writers – Pays up to $200/story

On Spec magazine (est. 1989) has reopened for both poetry and fiction stories. The publication identifies and exhibits outstanding works written primarily by Canadian writers and artists, in the genre called “Fantastic” literature. The editors welcome submissions by Canadian and non-Canadian writers.

On Spec is known for publishing as many new aspiring writers as practical, together with works by established professional writers.

Barry Hammond serves as Poetry Editor and submissions are usually open year round. His requirements for submitting excellent poetry is to be original and write with a firm voice; incorporate beautiful, stunning images and language; and submit modern poetry–blank, free verse, or discursive prose poems.

Line length: from 4 to 100 lines per poem; up to 1K words per short story; up to 6K words for regular stories.

Payment: $50 per poem; $50 per short story (under 1K words); up to $200 per story (up to 6K words).
