Country magazine (est. 1987), a bimonthly publication published by Trusted Media Brands, Inc. (publishers of Reader’s Digest), has updated its submission guidelines to help writers submit stories to the editors.

The editors are interested in personal narratives and people-driven stories–written in a relaxed, casual style–that encapsulate the beauty, appeal, and culture of country life in rural America. Writers who live in a rural area are encouraged to write for the magazine to share their experience.

Suggested word length: 400-500 words per story.

Payment: $100 per story. (Previous rate was $250 per story. Also, the magazine no longer pays for jokes and short pieces)

Accepted stories from outside writers are professionally edited by staff members.

Writers can submit their full stories, instead of sending a query. Read updated submission guidelines at Country magazine’s website.
