Cast of Wonders, an eZine and podcast presenting fiction stories of the fantastic for young adults (ages 12-17), has reopened for submissions.
Both emerging and experienced writers are invited to submit stories of “high fantasy”–fairy tales, folklore and mythology–to the more contemporary forms of fantasy that often appear in adult markets.
The editor is also open to all types of speculative fiction, including science fiction, urban fantasy, steampunk, paranormal romance, space opera, and horror. What matters most is that stories stir an excitement of wonder, explore the human experience, and reveal the unreal.
Because Cast of Wonders targets young readers, the editor looks for innovative, non-patronizing stories with diverse appeal, and free from explicit sex, brutality or prevalent profanity.
Word length: up to 6K words, but preferably between 3K and 4500 words per story (about 30 minutes of audio).
Payment: 6 cents/word (considered pro-rates for this genre); a $100 flat rate per short fiction story; or a $20 flat rate per flash fiction story.
Deadline: to be announced. Read submission guidelines at Cast of Wonder’s website.
